What's for Dinner?

Hey All,

Do you have a meal you fix every year on the first day of the new year?  Is it a tradition or a superstition?  Or maybe now has become a little of both?  We will be having our usual southern style New Year's Day dinner it is has become a tradition for me but a superstition for my hubby.  He believes if you don't have collard greens, black eyed peas, and pork roast you will have bad luck all year.

New Year's Day Menu:

collard greens
black eyed peas
pork roast
mashed potatoes & gravy
green beans
mac & cheese
cornbread

Whether it be tradition or superstition the good news for me is I won't have to cook tomorrow.  Leftovers!

Happy New Year's and may 2012 be good to you!

Vickie,

It sounds absolutely delicious. I made pork and the black eye peas too, but in a different dish with sauerkraut. It's suppose to be very lucky.

It sounds like you have been very busy with the kids and the appointments. I have asthma and it went undiagnosed for a very long time because it isn't severe and when I was in the doctor's office I wasn't having an attack. There are breathing exercises that can help with it. Also, I used a very cool program (Wild Divine makes it) to practice increasing lung capacity so that when I do have an attack it is less severe and I can get it under control pretty quick. Ironically caffeine helps too (coffee or soda). I know caffeine isn't good for us, but it can bring an asthma attack down right away.

I understand what you said about your hubby. The Spring usually cures everything so it will just be a few more months.

I love hearing about your crafts too - did you make anything special for the holidays or was it just too busy?
